When repacing the tilt motor how do I assure that the motor will stop at the full up or down position of the outdrive ?  In order to drain water from the outdrive for winter , I was unable to lower the unit with the motor as it would not run. I then removed the exterior gear rack to lower the unit. I then tried to operate the motor with the gear rack removed to see if my problem was really the motor . The drive gear did turn slightly but would not operate beyond that at all. I know it is not in it's original position. What if any problem did I create and how to install the new motor properly ? I do not know how the motor limits out to prevent damage.
