2003 150hp check engine alarm causes and risk?

Hi,

I have a 2003 150hp Johnson that runs fine except that above about 3000rpms after several minutes

the check engine alarm sounds and lights indicating a fuel restriction.

Question 1: Is there risk of damage if the engine is running fine?

(It certainly doesn't seem there would be and I read this might be a faulty vacuum sensor)

Question 2: The fuel tank is older (1988 Grady White) and recently filled so I was thinking when I filled it the check balls might be acting up?

Question 3: It would be great to know what to check in the order of simplist things to more complex instead of just replacing fuel system items in a trial and error fashion i.e. fuel bulb and line, filter, etc.

Oh I forgot to mention that the primer bulb was checked and seems to remain full, not collapsing.

Thanks

Steve

Check the screen in the pick up of the tank and also anti siphon valve good luck steve.

From other reading it would seem the logical places to start are the hose and bulb,

then fuel/water separator, then fuel filter on motor before I go tearing apart the built-in fuel cell.

Can anyone answer question 1?

So I removed the filter at the VRO pump, took it home and after it dried out I dumped maybe a

quarter of a teaspoon of particulate out of it that looked like orange sand (rust?)

Then I blew out the filter with compressed air and reinstalled it.

Motor ran at 4500 rpms for about 15 mins (which was a great improvement) but then I got the check engine alarm again.

It was dark so I didn't remove the filter again yet to check if it sucked up more of this material.

The tank is the original aluminum on a 22 year old Grady White Tournament 19 and the entire fuel system will be replaced during the off season.

The tank was also recently filled as I just purchased the boat.

Do all boat tanks have an anti-siphon valve and can you tell me where I might look?

There is no water separation filter on this boat, the hose goes directly from motor to tank.

Oh one more piece of data is the primer bulb on the hose looks like it's been replaced by a quicksilver model and clamped with SS hose clamps.

Previous owner had ALL work done by a reputable marina so I'm assuming for now that they replaced the primer with one of adequate capacity.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks
