Replacing Mallory points dist. with early HEI GM

Have 1978 Galaxy, OMC 185hp 800 stringer. Wiring issue from ESA module. Where to terminate the purple wire from the module? I think the gray wire can be attached to the HEI "tach" terminal w/ existing tach wire? Is the ESA neccessary & will it work with HEI?

Be advised:

GM automotive HEI is not marine rated

meaning - not spark shielded 

This is dangerous and is not coast guarded approved
