I just got a 1984? merc. 50 4 cyl. I think it is a 84, none of the serial numbers start with an A like mine but the time period of mid 80's looks like mine. When I got it it had clogged carbs. I removed and replaced after cleaning but apparently I got a wire in the wrong place. no spark now. It does turn over but no spark. I did run but only one quarter throttle. dirty float valve. is it possable I could have burned out an assembly and is there a way to check. would you have a picture or scematic or something that would help
Thanks
Warren

we refered to your post because our serial number is also like  yours (a101248).2 of the wires on stator are all burnt up and the black one is cut off. the ignition trigger has one brown wire burnt all the way up.and the switch box has a crack in it.we also are able to turn motor over but have no fire.we are wondering if some one put wrong parts in or if u could advise us what year modele we should be refering to for correct parts and a manuel
