Over-oiling

This problem has evaded 3 service shops! On my Johnson 115hp, the automatic oiler is pumping too much oil into the cylinders. Especially after it sits between use, the oil line bulb will be as hard as a rock, and engine will not start, too much oil. If you get it started, it smokes like a smoke bomb, and if you stop,,it won't start. Could my oil pump be running all the time even when engine is off? What controls when and how much oil is pumped? And lastly, If you are scratching your head as much as I, can I not just run it on mixed gas/oil like the old days?

Do you have the model number or year at least? It sounds like you're going to need a new VRO pump. The original VRO pump was notoriously faulty, but it has since been updated and revised by Bombardier. If you want to pre-mix, you will have to install an older style fuel lift pump in place of the VRO. Thank you

My engine # is 115VLSSS serial # is G04766655, built 9/1999. If my over-oiling is due to the VRO, does the VRO pump gas and oil, or just oil? If only oil, clarify please that it's not a simple matter to just pre-mix.      Clay.
