I have a 1977 Bertram 28’ convertible with twin Mercruisers chevy 350’s. I was having a reoccurring problem getting my port starter to activate consistently. After chasing the solenoid power wire down I found it goes to another solenoid at the rear end of the engine. I assume it is the original remote solenoid that is not necessary with my current starter. I bypassed the solenoid on my engine and the starter works every time now. Are you familiar with this setup and is my assumption correct? Also I see a circuit overload reset button next to the solenoid and I’m not sure what it is used for (it’s not on my electrical schematic).
Comments
the solonoid on the engine
is called a slave solonoid
it is part of the original set-up from mercruiser
i would recommend replacing it
to retain the mercruiser design
thanks for the help
