mercury 25 will only run out of water

mercury 25 will not run when put in lake, but will run on land with water hose hook to it. what are some of the possible reasons that would cause this?

Check for water leak in exhaust covers good luck steve.

Check fuel filter to see if it is in backwards ~

You will need to repair your fuel pump. The diaphagms have gone bad, so they do not work when the motor is under load (in the water).
