leaking water in engine compartment while in gear

I have a '92 chris craft concept that pours water out of the rear seal (where the lower unit bolts to the engine) only when it is in gear. While it is idling water circulates correctly. There is no water in the engine oil. What is my problem? Can it be solved without buying a new lower unit?

Sound like the gasket is leaking in the intermediate housing get a mirror and look for leak when in gear and replace good luck steve.
