How do you disconnect shift shaft from lower unit when unbolting lower unit to replace impeller? I remove the 4 bolts holding lower unit to shaft housing, but can not figure out how to disconnect shift shaft.

If you can't see how the shift shaft is connected to the lower unit then you may need to remove the top cover and see if you can disconnect it from the top end connected to the powerhead. Hope that helps.

You have to take the starter lose and you will see a pin under it remove only the pin and that is where linkage is connected.
